Grange, Edinburgh

A listed Victorian villa in the Grange conservation area with a tortuous dark and dingy access to existing rear outhouse kitchen. The concept was to open-up the solid blank read wall of the house, to bring both air and light into the central circulation area and create a direct link and through-view into the rear garden from the front door. Two new linked rear extensions replace a mix of old outbuildings to relocate the former kitchen and provide a new utility room, kitchen.dining room and bedroom extensions to rear and a landscaped garden – finished in 2003 at a construction cost of £80,000.
